Sleep better and protect your teeth with a night guard

When you wake up in the morning, are your teeth, jaw, and gums sore? If so, it’s probably caused by teeth grinding while you sleep.

Teeth grinding is the condition known as bruxism and many people suffer from it. During the day, people often consciously grind their teeth, but when it is done at night, it can create a much larger problem. Teeth grinding can damage enamel, wear down teeth, cause jaw pain, and irritate your gums. The noise created when a spouse grinds their teeth can also disturb the other spouse’s sleep.

A night guard is an excellent way to protect your teeth. Similar to a mouth guard worn by athletes, a night guard serves as a protective barrier that separates the top teeth from the bottom teeth.

All night guards made at Apopka Smiles are custom fit for comfort and for proper breathing. We will take an impression of your teeth and the impression is then sent to a lab for fabrication. Night guards are durable and can be used for years.

There are other ways to try to stop teeth grinding. Training your jaw to be free and relaxed rather than clenched is one way. If patients can refrain from chewing gum or from chewing on objects such as pens or pencils can also help. It is also good to avoid alcoholic drinks that are mixed with caffeine.
