Implant Patient Care

Patient care recommendations following implant placement

The No. 1 recommendation for every Apopka Smiles patient is to be sure to get plenty of rest. That’s the most important consideration.

Every patient should build in time to rest in the 48 to 72 hours following implant placement. Rest will limit post-surgery bleeding and promote quicker healing of the mouth and gums. Patients should drink plenty of fluids, but should not consume anything that is too cold.

Applying an ice pack to the face in 20-minute intervals for two days will help reduce swelling. If the implant was placed in the upper mouth, patients should avoid blowing their nose for a period of two weeks. If blowing your nose is required, do so as gently as possible.

Patients should expect some bleeding to occur in the area of the implant for as many as 2 to 3 days following surgery. The area may be uncomfortable for the first two days, and patients may notice a mild fever. If a patient isn’t feeling better by the third day, call Apopka Smiles at 407-788-6888.

Patients should eat If they are hungry, but should try to chew the food on the side of the mouth where the wound is not located.
