Multiple Tooth Extractions

Here are some tips if you are facing a multiple tooth extraction

The thought of having more than one tooth removed during a single office visit is likely to stress many patients.

It’s not an easy task for the dentist either. Multiple teeth are removed when a patient’s mouth is being prepped for dentures or wisdom teeth are being extracted so braces can be placed. In such cases, the patient’s jaw will need time to heal before either procedure can move forward.

When multiple teeth are extracted, the patient may experience the following conditions:

  • Swelling is likely both inside the mouth and around the eyes for at least the first two days.
  • The area around the eyes may also become discolored, which can be helped by a warm compress.
  • The throat may be sore because the muscles in the mouth near the extraction site will be irritated.
  • The corners of the mouth may be dry and cracked because the mouth was stretched during surgery.

A follow-up appointment is usually needed within 48 hours. Call Apopka Smiles at 407-788-6888 to schedule a follow-up. Patients can discuss any lingering post-surgery symptoms with our dentist at that time.
