Relieve the pain of a cavity with a filling

Living with the consistent pain of a decaying tooth can be stressful and distracting to patients.

Don’t live in pain. Begin a treatment plan by calling Apopka Smiles. Depending on the severity of the decay, and the structural integrity of the tooth, a filling is likely to be the best course of treatment. The decay will be removed from the tooth and filled with a composite resin or a silver amalgam material. Teeth that have been misused and are cracked, broken or worn from nail-biting or grinding can also be filled.

A variety of materials can be used to create a filling, including gold, porcelain, the aforementioned silver amalgam, or glass materials called composite resins.

Proper care for your fillings

Good oral hygiene habits are the best way to maintain a filling. If patients schedule regular cleanings, brush with a toothpaste containing fluoride, and floss at least once a day, a filling should last a number of years. If you suspect a filling might be loose or disintegrating, schedule an X-ray at Apopka Smiles so we can evaluate the situation. Here are some signs of a cracked filling;

  • the patient has a tooth that is extremely sensitive;
  • a tooth has developed a sharp edge;
  • a noticeable crack has developed in the filling;
  • a piece is missing from the filling, or there are pieces of the filling in your mouth in the morning.
